Josh Arcoleo – Tenor Saxophone
Next Tuesday at The Amersham the SE Collective are very excited to
present US drum maestro Jeff Williams and his all star British-based quartet!
After a sell-out performance at the Amersham back in January with Martin
Speake’s Trio, Jeff was very keen to bring his own ensemble down to SE London,
which features some of the UK’s leading improvisers, both fresh and established.
In a
career spanning four decades drummer Jeff Williams' musical associates have
included Stan Getz, Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman and Lookout Farm, Joe Lovano, Paul
Bley, Bill McHenry, Ethan Iverson, Tony Malaby, and many more. During the
1990's Jeff performed with his own quintet and released two CDs of original
compositions: Coalescence (SteepleChase) and Jazzblues (Cathexis).
For the past five years he has been based both in New York and London. In the
UK Jeff has performed with Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, and has toured with
McHenry, Konitz, the Phil Robson/Dave Liebman Quartet, and Martin Speake's Change
of Heart (with Bobo Stenson). Jeff has also collaborated with The Hans
Koller Quartet, Sextet and Big Band, Nikki Iles, Kit Downes, and Alex Merritt
and Barry Green's Blue Note Band.

Jeff’s
NYC quartet (featuring Duane Eubanks, John O'Gallagher and John Hébert) toured
the UK in May 2012 performing music form his highly acclaimed 2011 CD Another Time, which will be showcased
again at the Amersham next week. The album was launched at last year's London
Jazz Festival, with a lovely review of the gig found here:

Williams’
British accomplices need little introduction. Phil Robson has long been
recognised as a world-class performer, forming the back-bone of the anarchic Partisans, touring with US jazz legends
Dave Liebman, Billy Hart, James Genus and Mark Turner, and being featured on
numerous luminous jazz recordings over the past 20 years. Sam Lasserson has
become firmly established as one the UK’s finest young bassists, regularly
performing with Martin Speake and Kit Downes. As well as being a featured
soloist in Stan Sultzman’s big band, rising sax-star Josh Arcoleo released his
debut album Beginnings earlier this
year to widespread acclaim.
This
promises to be an exciting evening of cutting-edge contemporary jazz, looking
forward to seeing you all down at the Amersham!
