19.3.13 - Martin Kolarides Trio & Olie Brice Qrt ft Alex Bonney & Jeff Williams

This week at the SE Collective we have a fabulous double bill for you...

Martin Kolarides Trio:
An exciting sonic reworking of the Organ Trio format, this ensemble lead by Guitarist
Martin Kolarides, with Arthur Lea - Organ and Pete Ibbetson - Drums, takes its inspiration from the other worldly atmospherics of Bill Frisell and Brian Eno whilst fusing the infectious rythmic stylings of such diverse sources as west African Soukous/Lingala through to a touch classic Wayne Krantz wrapped up in memorable compositions and lyrical improvising.

Olie Brice Quartet:
Olie Brice – double bass
Alex Bonney – trumpet / pocket trumpet
Mark Hanslip – tenor saxophone
Jeff Williams – drums

One of the UK’s most respected young musicians on the improvised music scene, Brice leads this stellar quartet performing his own compositions which act as springboards for spontaneous improvising and composing in the moment.

“Brice makes the entire body of his bass sing. He has the ability to deliver a fractal line that is as purposeful as any by the great jazz bassists, but to do so within an entirely abstract setting”
     – Brian Morton, Point of Departure

“Consistently inspired”
     – The Wire
