Wednesday 24th April: Arthur Lea's Bootleg Brass

Another sublime evening last Tuesday thanks to the Corrie Dick Quartet! This week we move to Wednesday for something a little different from one of the SE Collective's very own...

Arthur Lea has been hammering honky tonks since his hands could first reach the keys. Somewhere between the London jazz scene and the American delta, he sings a retro brand of rhythm n blues, happening hooks, and southern soul. Bootleg Brass is a brand new bag, bringing blues n roots originals home to The Amersham with a funky, horn heavy line-up. New Orleans in tight jeans - warm harmony, fat beats & other treats, with beautiful blowing improv from a cracking line-up...

Pat Levett - drums
Oren Marshall - tuba
Jerome Harper - trombone
Jon Shenoy - reeds
Rob Greenwood – trumpet
Frances Lea – vocals
Arthur Lea - piano, vocals, tenor horn

“hard-riffing"” “excellent pianist...like a 21st-century Thelonious Monk”
John Fordham, The Guardian

“Like the blues legends he admires, Arthur Lea is not only a great singer and songwriter – he’s also a fantastic showman"
Rick Pearson, Evening Standard music critic
