Back at home, down at the Amersham
next week we have the French horn virtuoso Jim Rattigan, as well as emerging
talent Jon Desbruslais leading his own quintet.
Jim Rattigan / Liam Noble / Dylan Bates / Sophie Ramsay
The U.K.'s foremost jazz French horn player will be
joined by Liam Noble on piano, Dylan Bates on violin and poet Sophie Ramsay.
They will perform 'Reverberance', a new work by Jim Rattigan set to two poems
by Sophie Ramsay.
“Rattigan...a brilliant and
versatile jazz soloist on French horn and an interesting and questing
composer/arranger” - Ian Carr, Rough Guide To Jazz
“Noble is a
supreme motivic improviser in the manor of Thelonious Monk, Ornette Colman,
Sonny Rollins and latterly, Brad Mehldau”
- John Fordham, The
Guardian
“Bates is one of the most
exciting figures on the jazz scene....” Tom Barlow, Jazzwise
“Sophie magically transports the audience...” Wil
Mossop, Three Weeks
Jon Desbruslais Quintet
Emerging drummer Jon Desbruslais formed his quintet earlier this year
with Dougie Freeman (Piano), Nick Breakspeare (Bass), Henry Spencer (Trumpet)
and Tommy Andrews (Alto Saxophone) to perform his own original music. Influenced
by the likes of Art Blakey, Brian Blade, Chucho Valdes and Ambrose Akinmusire, Jon's
writing focuses on lyrical melodies, warm and descriptive harmonies and
strong rhythms.
You can check the band out here:
"Technically Assured playing with depth; engaging, exciting" Malcolm Edmonstone
As ever, we'll be kicking off at the Amersham around 8.30, £5, see you there!
